7 books for the avid fan

1: Faith and Fear in Flushing, by Greg Prince.  Prince and his partner Jason Fry run a blog of the same name.  A wonderful description of life as a fan.

2: Mets Essential, by Matthew Silverman.  A basic history of the team, with trivia, fun facts, and excellent insight.

3: The Happiest Recap: First Base (Volume One).  Recently released.  Also by Greg Prince.  As described, “50 years of the New York Mets as told in 500 amazin’ wins.”

4: Yankees Suck!  Written by Jim Gerard, and a personal favorite of mine, a guide on how to expertly put down the arguments of every bandwagon jumper you’ll ever meet.

5: 100 Things Mets Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die.  Written by Matthew Silverman, a fine guide to the finer things in Mets history.

6: The Mets: A 50th Anniversary Celebration, by Andy Martino and Anthony McCarron.  With a forward by Ron Darling, one of the best parts of this book is the excellent photography, with pictures of everything from the Brooklyn Dodgers to David Wright.

7: Total Mets, by David Ferry.  Basically an encyclopedia, this book features everything you could ever need to know about the Mets, besides the reasoning behind Zambrano for Kazmir.  Forward by Ed Kranepool.
